Pipeline Soccer Club at OGBC Capital Cup Labor Day Tournament

Pipeline

When the Pipeline 2008 Boys Red team agreed to play in the 2017 OBGC Capital Cup Labor Day Tournament, they were not prepared for the remnants of Hurricane Harvey to make an appearance.

The first game was 10 a.m. against Freedom Force. Harvey showed early and stayed around for the game. His contribution led to soaked players and coaches. Freedom weathered the rain and defeated Pipeline.

The second game was 4:30 p.m. against Hereford Maroon. The heavy band of rain came through just before game time and Harvey made his presence known once during the game. Hereford Maroon won this game.

After the game, parents wondered why all the boys were gathered in a corner of the field. The investigation revealed they had located a four-foot snake. Was it there during the game? No one knew. What kind was it? I don’t know and didn’t ask.

The team was scheduled for a third game to be played Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Harvey was gone, the sun was shining and the temperature was warm. Perfect weather for another game. Unfortunately, the game was canceled. All games in our age group were canceled.

The results for the two games were disappointing. Everyone hoped for better but no one could fault the players for their play in adverse conditions. The boys were soaked before they completed warm-up for the first game. They remained that way through that game and most of the second. Yet, the play on the pitch was spirited. The subs were ready and answered up when called to sub in.

The tournament was an interesting way to open the 2017 fall season. I am interested in hearing how you spent the holiday weekend.
