Thanks for reading and the comment. Sandy would have enjoyed meeting Fangue, I bet. I was able to bring my wife up after only a couple months separation. I got a Quanset hut outside the takeoff gate. Good thing since we had been married six months before I left her for Iceland. Good memories of our time on island.

Enjoyed your articles about Kef and Adak - thought I'd relate some memories I have of those places. As for Kef, you mentioned you and your wife had a dog, named Sandy. I worked at Hafnir and we had a dog there, named Fangue. Apparently, he had the same feelings about Icelandics as Sandy. When we opened the door to the loading dock in the rear of the upper MatShop , and their were Icelandics working in the antenna array, Fangue would launch and made sure they knew he wasn't happy! He was also not pleased with "brown shoes" in his spaces - all one had to do was call Fangue over and quietly tell him "Brown shoe, Fangue, brown shoe!" Again, he would launch and the poor visitor wearing the brown shoes would get the distinct impression Fangue was about to eat their foot! Oh, the memories - went to Mast for "smuggling government firearms off the main base. Long story, but the CO saw things my way and let me off. Whew! Been there about 10 months unaccompanied, then brought my wife and daughter up there...got back after a couple weeks and was called to the EMO's office. Said that while I was gone my orders had come in - would I prefer to take the years extension for command sponsorship or would I prefer to take the orders. Asked where the orders were for - Guam. End of discussion - we're gone!
