Pipeline 2008 Boys Red at the Columbia Fall Classic

Pipeline Columbus Fall Classic

The Pipeline 2008 Boys played three games this weekend at the Columbia Fall Classic. The boys faced quality competition under adverse weather. When the tournament ended, Pipeline had lost one game and tied two.

The weekend weather was the coldest since last spring. The temperature at 7 am on Saturday was 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Game time at 11 was a warm forty. The weather was frigid; it played a little role in Pipeline’s loss.

Confuse me

Although I have watched many soccer games and assistant coached this team for two years, I saw something new.

Trailing 4-3, Pipeline put a ball into the net. Everyone thought it was the tying goal. Instead, the referee calls no goal. He said there was a foul away from the scoring play by the other team. He took the score off and set up a PK for Pipeline. Unfortunately, Pipeline missed the PK, and the game went into the score book as a loss, 4-3.

Game two ended in a 1-1 tie. The weather was still in the 40’s, and Pipeline boys seemed lethargic after the disappointing loss. The other team scored first, and Pipeline countered shortly after.

Game three was another tie, 2-2. The game played at noon Sunday. The weather was again in the 40’s. Twice, Pipeline fell behind but fought back to even each time. As mentioned, final tournament results were no wins, one loss, and two ties.

Fall Season Over

Fall season started with two tournament games during a torrential downpour courtesy of leftovers from Hurricane Harvey. The second day’s game canceled. Pipeline played in a Labor Day tournament and was a finalist. The CMSSL season saw Pipeline 4-3. The Columbia Fall Classic saw the end of the boy’s fall season. The team had ups and downs, but the downs were fewer than the ups.

The team is off until after Thanksgiving. The team will move indoors for the winter. Next tournament will be in the spring.  Go Pipeline!
