Time Again for Seahawks Football

The first game of the season for the Seahawks was against Old Mill. To clarify, it was the South River Seahawks. The team is composed of boys 12 and under.

My grandson, Leo, plays wide receiver and running back for them. Tonight he saw time in both roles.

Today, was the first time I had seen the team together. My first impression was how much some of the boys had grown since the end of last season. I noticed they seemed to enjoy being together as they practice plays warming up.

The game was a hard-fought game on both sides. The boys, young men, on both teams gave their counterparts no quarter. The pursuit of the ball carrier was aggressive and tackles hard. Most of the scores were the result of long pass plays.

I was impressed with Leo’s play. His blocks kept his opponent out of the play and several times he pulled his man after him as he ran pass routes. He has gotten taller, faster, bulked up some, and gained an appreciation for the nuances of playing wide receiver.

South River Seahawks is a team with great prospects for the coming season. An offensive line that protects the quarterback and opens running lanes. A defensive line that makes the opponent struggle to move the ball. A good backfield and receiving corps. A well-balanced team.

I look forward to attending future games when my soccer coaching allows. I encourage anyone in the Annapolis-Baltimore area to make time to watch one of the South River Seahawks’ games.
